Louis Vuitton is suing Google How Will this affect you

Louis Vuitton is suing Google for trademark infringement which could cause this popular search engine to rethink how it sells advertising.
The problem, according to Louis Vuitton, is Googles advertisers, who have paid to be associated with certain keywords. Some of these keywords bring up another company who is infringing on their trademark. For example, Louis Vuitton is a registered trademark for a high status handbag. If you type in the keyword for Louis Vuitton, you will also get Louis Vuitton replicas, fake Louis Vuittons etc. and this company has taken it all the way to the french courts to protect their product.
What will be the impact? How can Googles system possibly keep up with the specific criteria for trademarked searches? I have read that Google will no longer be accepting paid advertising for any advertisers that carry the word fake or replica in their ad. Meanwhile, Google is appealing the decision so this could drag out in the courts for years.

Handbag Design Enrages 911 Relatives

Relatives and friends of the 911 victims are upset over a handbag made in Beijing that shows the events of the World Trade Center attack. The purse depicts a plane striking the WTC with another plane in the background.
The bags are being sold through a a chain of Australian stores and, according to the stores owner, the bags are best sellers and have sold out in Sydney and Melbourne. The owner is quick to defend the beaded bags design, saying that it is an artistic interpretation and can be viewed also as an homage to the victims of 911. Relatives say the purses are exploiting the tragedy and cashing in on their grief and loss.
The handbag has now become a collectors item and sells for about $159.

New Handbag Smells Like Grape Bubble Gum

New Handbag Smells Like Grape Bubble Gum
There's a new concept in handbags that is irrestibly cute and smells good too! This bag is the creation of Mary Swan, who manufactures targets and protective gear for the FBI and has used this technology to make an awesome handbag.
The bag is soft and squishy, resembling egg crate foam. It comes in 6 colors, is anti-bacterial, floats, and can be used as a pillow for long trips.
Each bag smells like grape bubble gum, which is injected during the molding process. The rest of the manufacturing process is a trade secret but we hope to see more of these bags in the future.

Handbags Inspired by Famous Actresses

The actress who has had the most impact on a handbag design is Jane Birkin, a famous model and actress in 1984. She was sitting on an
airplane next to the president of Hermes (Jean-Louis Dumas) and he noticed that she was trying to handle a large tote bag filled with everything she
needed for her young daughter. During their conversation, they started to design a handbag that would suit the needs of a young mother and the Berkin Bag was born!

Catherine Deneuve also inspired a bag by Fendi. Her handbag was designed to her specifications to keep her make up in the top part of the
bag and the bottom part holds jewelry that can be locked for safety.

This trend of handbags and actresses is continuing today. Just look at the fashion magazines and when you see a picture of Elizabeth Hurley carrying
a beautiful Judith Leiber handbag, you know sales of this bag will soar!

Handbags - a Symbol of Female Power

Have you ever thought of a handbag as a symbol of female power and authority?
Of course everyone is different so a purse for one person may mean something totally
different and unique for another but let's look at handbags from a different perspective.
Have you ever noticed that the press of England has spent time and effort speculating and
commenting on ex-Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher's handbag? To quote "The Times" in
June, 1982 written by Julian Critchley, "She...tends to believe the worst of the Foreign and
Commonwealth Office. She cannot see an institution without hitting it with her handbag..."
It's obvious that the press equates Margaret Thatcher's handbag with her assertion of power and
the ability to impose her will. If you look closely, you will notice that her handbags closely resemble
the Queen Mother's handbags. Is is because both of these powerful women choose the same type of bag or
is Ex-Prime Minister Thatcher deliberately mimicking this female symbol of ultimate authority in her country?

Negotiations are underway for the famous handbag to be placed in a museum that houses Winston Churchill's papers
and historical documents from the War. There is no indication that Mr. Churchill's wallet is stored in this prestigious
collection but, then again, Margaret Thatcher was the first woman to impose her powerful presense (and pocketbook!) on
10 Downing Street!

Louis Vuitton Handbags Wins Court Fight Against Google

Louis Vuitton has won it's trademark infringement fight with Google!
A court in Paris ruled that the famous search engine was guilty of tradement counterfeiting, unfair competition, and misleading advertising and ordered to pay up.

The suit stems from handbag manufacturer Louis Vuitton accusing Google of selling advertising on it's site (Ad-Sense)that used the name Louis Vuitton to trigger ads that were not for genuine Louis Vuitton bags.

Is this going to change the way Google handles it's advertising? I have heard through sources that this search engine will look at it's advertisers more closely but only time will tell if a new ad policy will be implemented.

The Zen of Handbag Making

I believe that everyone has an innate creative ability but that we do not have the time or the patience to explore this side of ourselves. The handbag patterns I am in the process of creating are very easy to make but also allow you to flex your mental muscle by choosing the fabric and the lining. I want to encourage you to get in touch with your intuition and let your imagination loose.

Making your own bag is better than having an expense designer bag because it can reflect who you are. Even the process of creating your bag can be a rewarding experience. Have you ever experienced the joy of a sewing a perfectly straight seam? Revel in it's perfection - you are the one who made this and it will truly be a unique work of art!

Feeling frivolous? Try a pink poodle fabric with a matching lining of pink polkadots. Are you more the classic type? Go for the luxurious tapestries with a silk lining. Don't be afraid to express yourself with interesting combinations, textures, and fabric materials. Feel free to add a purchased bow, jewelry brooch, or anything that you find that can be glued and/or sewn into the fabric to make the handbag uniquely your own.

Take some time for yourself away from family, responsibilities and friends to explore your creative side and you might be surprised at the results!
Best of luck to you!

Vintage Purses of the 1960s from an Historical Perspective

The swinging 60s was a time of controversy with the war in Vietnam, the desire for personal freedom, and the civil rights movement. How did this decade impact on handbags?
First lets examine influences on the culture of these years. The Beatles had burst on the scene from England with their revolutionary music that seemed to capture a generation. John F. Kennedy was elected president with his intense appeal to young people and unbounded energy and his wife imparted her own sense of style to the country.
At the beginning of the 60s, the classical (as embodied by Jackie Kennedy) was in vogue with fine tailoring and quality workmanship. As the Vietnam War began to take center stage later in the decade and Presidents Johnson and Nixon came to power, handbag fashion took a decidedly free form turn with large, unstructured purses and interesting materials such as woven baskets, personalization and individualistic shapes.
Handmade purses became the new haut couture and doing your own thing was at its peak of popularity. Fashion designer handbags began to lose customers as less expensive alternatives became important.
Today just about anything goes as far as handbag designs are concerned but I think there has been a subtle shift towards more fun purses - just look at the new Dooney and Burke charm handbag collection.

Handbags From the 1940s

Women's handbags reflected a new assertiveness during the 1940's due to the expanded role that had women
in the workplace and at home.
Soft, feminine bags took on the shape of larger and practical more boxy bags. These new handbags complimented
the broad shouldered suit dresses that were popular at the time.
Animal skin bags also became popular in the 1940's with alligator, lizard, and even turtle being the skin of choice
for fashion minded women.

Flamingo Bags are Big for Spring

Flamingo handbags are popping up all over this Spring! These bags show pictures, embroidery, or fabric with flamingos all over. Did you know that
flamingos are related to storks, herons and ibises and that their bill is highly specialized to filter out algae from the food that they eat?
These birds received their name from the Portuguese flamenco which means "flaming" and is a comment on their beautiful color, which can range from scarlet to pink.
If you want a super fun handbag for this Spring, take flight with the flamingo!

Coach Files Complaint Against Louis Vuitton Handbags

Coach Handbags and Louis Vuitton are having a turf war in upscale department stores in Japan!
The complaint was filed with the Japanese Fair Trade Commission (JFTC) and stated that Coach believes Louis Vuitton has put pressure on Japanese retailers by threatening
to withdraw their profitable brand name Louis Vuitton handbags if the store allows Coach to expand their line. Coach views this as an all out anti-
competitive practice and has asked the JFTC to launch an official investigation.
Louis Vuitton has responded in a press release by stating that it questions the motives of a company (Coach)that manufactures most of it's products in regions with cheap labor.
It will be very interesting to follow this cat fight between these handbag icons!
