Backpacks bags pattern book by Cindy Taylor Oates (Taylor Made Designs) has clear instructions for making 2 sizes of backpacks and also a tutorial on how to quilt and how to make dimensional pockets!  Finished sizes are:

SMALL 10" x 12" x 4" and

LARGE 13" x 16 1/2" x 5 3/4"

Each of the backpacks has a cell phone pocket and a roomy pocket in the lining.  This is a great beginners pattern book for making backpacks and it also has full pattern pieces.
